How to import a phpMyAdmin database on cPanel?

If you need to import a phpMyAdmin database on cPanel, simply follow these steps:

  1. Log in to cPanel and navigate to the Databases section.
  2. Click on the phpMyAdmin option. This will usually open in a new window.
  3. Choose the desired database from the list on the left-hand side.
  4. Click on Import from the top menu.
  5. Scroll to the Browse your computer section and click on Choose file to upload your database SQL file.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Go to import.

You can upload the following file types: SQL, GZIP, BZIP2 and ZIP.

That’s it! You have now imported a database SQL file. Simply repeat these steps for any additional exports as required.

Possible errors

Incorrect format parameter – This could indicate you are trying to upload an unsupported file type or a corrupted file.

Command denied to user – This means that the database user does not have the correct permission to upload a database. You need to set the correct privileges for the user by going to Databases>MySQL Databases>The relevant user>Manage user privileges and set all privileges and click Save.
