How to restore a backup from a different cPanel account?

You can manually restore a backup from a different cPanel account, whether this is from a different hosting provider or another cPanel hosted with Hosteology.

These instructions presume you have already taken partial backups of your home directory and any databases and have activated your hosting plan with us.

To restore a backup, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account and navigate to the Files section.
  2. Choose the Backup option and upload your Home Directory file using the Restore a Home Directory Backup option from the right-hand side. This can take some time depending on the size of the file.
  3. If your website has a database, navigate to the cPanel homepage and then the Databases section.
  4. Click on the MySQL Database Wizard option and create your new database and user making sure you enable all privileges at the final step and save.
  5. Return back to the Backup option under the Files section of cPanel and upload your database file under the Restore a MySQL Database Backup option on the right-hand side. Again, depending on your database size, this can take a little time.
  6. You now need to update your websites configuration file to ensure the database details match those you used when creating the new database earlier.

That’s it. Your website has been restored to your new cPanel account. You will need to make sure you change the nameservers of your domain name and wait for propagation. You may also need to clear your browser cache to view any changes.

Remember, your website will be restored in the same state it was at the time you made the backup. If there have been any changes to your website after you made the backup, these will not be included. Please try to use the most recent backup you can to avoid having to make any changes again.
